Visa information

Q: What is a visa?

A: A visa is permit to travel to a country that you want to visit.

Q: Do I need a visa for Sweden?

A: Whether you need a visa depends amongst others on your nationalities and country of residence. In short, you normally do not need a visa if you have: a residence card from a Schengen country; a passport from an EU country; a passport from a country with which the EU or Sweden has an agreement for visa-free travel.

Q: How do I know if I my country has a visa-free travel agreement with the EU or Sweden?

A: Check the following list at the website of the Swedish Ministry for Foreign Affairs:
http://www.government.se/government-policy/migration/list-of-foreign-citizens-who-require-visa-for-entry-into-sweden/
If you are a citizen of any of the countries on the list, you probably need a visa.

Q: What documents do I need to apply for a visa:

A: In general you need the following documents:
•    A passport that is valid for at least three months after the date you leave the Schengen area;
•    An invitation letter that you get from us (see below);
•    An application form;
•    Two photographs;
•    A bank statement demonstrating that you have at least 450 SEK for every day you stay in Sweden;
•    Travel insurance for medical assistance, emergency hospitalisation or medical repatriation.
Also check the website of the Swedish embassy in your country of residence for specific information.

Q: How do I apply?

A: Go to http://www.swedenabroad.com/ and select your country of residence. There is typically a menu item “Applying for a visa to Sweden” with all information on how to apply for a visa. You need to apply for a business visit visa.

Q: When should I apply for a visa?

A: It normally takes up to 14 days to receive the decision on whether you are issued a Schengen visa. We advise you to submit your visa application at least one month before the start of IPT 2017. Read also the information on the website of the Swedish embassy in your country of residence to check for any special requirements of time to decision.

Q: How do I get an invitation letter?

A: Send an e-mail to visas-2017@iptnet.info to request a visa invitation letter. Provide your full name, address, nationality, and the school where you are studying. We prefer if you can send one e-mail for the entire team.
